Elizabeth Towers
Elizabeth is a resident of the Bellarine having grown up in Ocean Grove she now lives in Clifton Springs. She completed her Diploma of Arts at the Gordon TAFE in 1997.
Elizabeth has participated in many group exhibitions in local galleries including the Geelong Gallery and has held two solo exhibitions. Several of her prints are in the Gordon Permanent Art Collection. In 2008 she was a selected participant in the Geelong Regional Artist Exhibition and as a result was named Artist of the Month in the Geelong Arts Bulletin.
Elizabeth has worked in a variety of mediums and styles. At present she is concentrating on painting in oil. She uses layers of transparent glazes that produce rich glowing colours. This layering reflects the artist’s attitude to life. As we delve below the surface we find layer upon layer interwoven by our unique responses, experiences and experiments with life.
Her work is concerned with the complex interaction between what is real and what exists only in our imagination. She attempts to capture the fleeting moment when the mind becomes informed by the subconscious. Her intuitive expression of what exists on the edge of consciousness, what is experienced internally, is transferred onto the canvas creating a physical and resonant connection with the ephemeral.
